Cast & Crew for 'The Green Book' following their 'Best Picture' Award win at The Oscars 2019. |
The show opened with a stellar performance from Queen + Adam Lambert, who did a combined performance of 'We Will Rock You' and 'We Are The Champions', and f*cking hell has Brian May still got it. The way he's still able to shred like that at 71 is ridiculous, he's pure Rock and Roll. They were great, really got the crowd going, how could they not, it's Queen. One thing coming out of this that really irritates me though is the still somehow ever present hate for Adam Lambert. I do realise Freddie Mercury's name has been all around the mainstream as of late, with 'Bohemian Rhapsody', so people complain about Lambert not filling Mercury's boots, but it really gets on my nerves. Lambert is Queen through and through, from style to voice to personality, and has been with them now for 8 years. He's the only man who could've filled that role, and he absolutely nailed it. You can watch the performance here, but don't look at the comments, as the Lambert hate train runs wild down there.

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's 'A Star Is Born' was nominated for 8 Oscar's, but only took home the 1 by winning the 'Best Original Song' Award, for the track 'Shallow', written and produced by Lady Gaga and Mark Ronson. It beat out strong contenders to the award, like Kendrick Lamar's 'All The Stars' from Marvel's 'Black Panther' (2018). The duo of Gaga and Cooper took to the stage later in the night to perform the song, which is being hailed as the best performance of the night, personally I preferred Queen, but the chemistry between these two is unmatched. The intimate piano performance may have stolen the show, and you can watch it here.

The Freddie Mercury biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (2018) was nominated for 5 Oscars, and managed to win 4! An impressive accomplishment, the movie won the awards for 'Best Sound Editing', 'Best Sound Mixing', 'Best Film Editing' and finally 'Best Actor' for Rami Malek who portrayed Freddie Mercury, and winning his first ever Academy Award. He acknowledged that Mercury was gay in his speech, something that 'Bohemian Rhapsody' controversially glossed over, saying, 'We made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who lived his life unapologetically himself. The fact that I'm celebrating him and this story with you tonight is proof that we're longing for stories like this.' I love that, it was the perfect stage to present that message. Rami Malek is a f*cking treasure don't even question me.

So that's all the music centred news that came out of last night's Academy Awards show, with outstanding performances all around and deserving victors. Unlike this years 'Grammy's', there's much more positive reaction flowing out from the public after this show. Thank you for reading.
