The 1975 were the standout act from the night, taking home two awards, earning themselves 'Best British Album of The Year' with their 2018 release 'A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships' and 'Best British Group', not bad for the Manchester Boys, who beat out acts like Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine, and The Gorillaz. My opinion on this, I can understand the hype behind The 1975, they're clearly talented, lyrically are very good and lead singer Matt Healy is one cool f*cker, thanking fellow nominees Arctic Monkeys in his acceptance speech, but the music is too artificial for me personally. But I do feel out of the nominees for both their categories, they deserved to take home both awards.

The 1975 at The Brits 2019 accepting the 'Best British Group' Award. |
Best British Male and Female artists were announced as George Ezra and Jorja Smith, beating out acts like Sam Smith, Lily Allen and again poor old Florence & The Machine. Ed Sheeran picked up the 'Global Success' Award and DJ Calvin Harris took home 'Producer of the Year' and 'Best British Single', with his song 'One Kiss' with Dua Lipa. Rock and Roll, thriving, as you can see. I sound bitter, I'm not, I do actually enjoy most of the work from these acts, but it's not all my taste, so I'm going to be slightly biased toward disliking these results. Although, a win by Geordie Sam Fender for the 'Critics Choice' Award was fantastic to see.

The Brits 2018 Stage. |
The Brits 2019 saw live performances from The 1975, Pink, Dua Lipa, and George Ezra, but the live highlight came at the very beginning of the show, where the legend himself Hugh Jackman performed 'The Greatest Show', from his 2017 movie 'The Greatest Showman'. Five minutes into the show and Twitter was claiming the night wasn't going to see much better than this, and they were right. At 50 years old, actor Hugh Jackman, f*cking Wolverine,, stole the show.

So as a whole, The Brits 2019 was a good event filled with very good live performances and a high standard of victors. Next up is 'The Oscars' on Feb 25th, while not fully focusing on Music, does feature live performances and musical awards, some of which I may report on, but let's be honest, it's mostly going to be sh*te. Thank you for reading.
