What Nirvana's Next Two Albums Would've Looked Like

Nirvana played their last ever show on this day (March 1st) 25 years ago in Munich, Germany. Kurt Cobain would take his own life a month later, leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten, and a music discography that is as impressive as it gets. Since Nirvana's demise in 1994, numerous Nirvana releases in terms of Box Sets and Compilation Albums have un-earthed many previously unheard Cobain pieces. So many unfinished Nirvana tracks are now well known, with Home Recordings by Kurt or Studio Outtakes being precious to Nirvana fans, who still crave for more material from Cobain. But before his passing, he did leave us many clues and hints on what was to come from him and the band, so what would Nirvana's 4th and 5th albums have actually looked like?

For these two, I guess, 'Fantasy Albums', I'll be using un-used/unheard Nirvana tracks from a variety of places, and these include the following; 'With The Light's Out' (Box Set, 2004), 'Nevermind Super Deluxe Edition' (2011), 'In-Utero Super Deluxe Edition' (2013) and 'Montage Of Heck - The Home Recordings' (2015), and Dave Grohl Demo's. The first Foo Fighter's Album in 1995 was actually all Recorded by Dave as a Demo Tape, and he played every instrument. There's a brilliant Playlist on Youtube called 'Dave's Demo's 1992-93', for his unheard work during the Nirvana days, and it's super good. Click Here to listen to the Playlist.

Albums/Compilations that feature Unheard Nirvana Material.

So, below are my guesses at what Nirvana's next two releases may have looked like. I would like to shout out Johnny Schizoid on Youtube, who actually makes these Fantasy Albums for many bands, and you can actually listen to his remixes and remasters, it's really good. I have borrowed his Album Covers and Names for this, so Click Here to go to his Channel. The song choices and order are of my opinion.

Nirvana IV - 'Breathe The Lie' - 1996

1. If You Must (WTLO Box Set)
2. Even In His Youth (Nevermind SDE)
3. Marigold (In-Utero SDE)
4. You Know You're Right (Final Nirvana Song)
5. Poison's Gone (Montage Of Heck)
6. Alone + Easy Target (Dave Grohl Demo)

8. Exhausted (Dave Grohl Demo)
9. Verse Chorus Verse (WTLO Box Set)

Nirvana V - 'Made, Not Born' - 1999
(Singles - 'Opinion', 'Sappy' and 'Burn The Rain')

1. I Hate Myself And Want To Die (In-Utero SDE)
2. Opinion (WTLO Box Set)
3. Oh, The Guilt (WTLO Box Set)
4. Big Me (Dave Grohl Demo)
5. Gallons Of Rubbling Alcohol Flow Through The Strip (In Utero SDE)
6. Old Age (WTLO Box Set)
7. Clean Up Before She Comes (WTLO Box Set)
8. Butterflies (Dave Grohl Demo)
9. They Hung Him On A Cross (WTLO Box Set)
10. Sappy (In-Utero SDE)
11. Burn The Rain (Montage Of Heck)

So there they are, my interpretations of what the future of Nirvana may have looked like, but obviously the next few albums would've contained newly written material, but as is the way of the world, we shall never hear it. I just want to mention, on 'Breathe The Lie', Track 10, 'Come On Death', now that's an interesting song. That song is briefly heard in the 2015 Documentary, 'Montage Of Heck', and is a Home Recording of Cobain's, yet it wasn't released on the soundtrack, but the minute-long clip was discovered and uploaded to Youtube. Listen here. But it proves that there are still unreleased Recording's out there, along with another version of 'Opinion' which is also briefly heard in 'MOH', yet not released. Fascinating.

'Do Re Mi' is the best posthumous release from Nirvana in my opinion, and I think it shows that the band may have been heading in a more acoustic-based direction, and especially considering the success of their MTV Unplugged Show, the album for which was actually released after Kurt's death. It's such a pity that the world never got to hear all of the music this man and band would've created, but at least he gave us a lot to enjoy. 25 years ago today, they played for the very last time without knowing it, but in a way, they'll never die. Thank you for reading.
